Every day the freshest fish, shellfish and crustaceans from all the waters of the world are delivered.Top quality fish from the depths of the sea, like Scottish or French halibut, monkfish from the Norwegian coast, dory and red snapper from the Eastern Atlantic: they all contribute to the legendary reputation of the Meinl fish department. Even popular sea fish like gilthead sea bream, cod or sardines can be bought here in top quality.


Our domestic fish selection is also outstanding, depending on the season, with freshly caught whitefish from the Bodensee, carp from the Waldviertel or pike-perch, sheatfish and pike from the Neusiedlersee. Trout-lovers are particularly well catered for. Smoked, in fillets or marinated in our own, highly-secret marinade – the skills of the Meinl fish experts are well known and cherished when it comes to cleaning and preparing this excellent fish.


Julius Meinl am Graben also has a most comprehensive assortment of smoked salmon: from the Scottish Spey Valley to Bachmann's Biolachs, to the wonderful fillets and side from speciality producers Balik (see Pre-packed Fresh Produce). Experts also revere our excellent seafood: wild-caught shrimps, fresh oysters, among them the much sought-after Gillardeau, lobster, crayfish and octopus make shopping here a real pleasure.

Lobster with Braised Octopus, tomato fund and fried potatoes

Ingredients for 6 servings

500 g of fresh pulpo (octopus)
1 tsp green tea

olive oil
125 ml red and port wine
125 ml ox tail sauce
2 boiled lobster of 700 g
white bread crumbs

Tomato Fund
500 g fully ripe red tomatoes
2 shallots
olive oil
500 g yellow tomatoes
20 ml white wine
20 ml of dry vermouth
3 basil leaves
1 meat tomato
5 young onions

Fried potatoes
9 small, firm cooking potatoes
