Tea & Confiserie

Beneficial and Comprehensive

If you are devotee of the fine art of tea drinking, there is no more elegant place in Vienna to seek out the most exotic and unusual blends than Meinl's tea department. Located on the First Floor, this is home to Michiko, our in-house tea collection, named after the wife of Julius Meinl II. This has been assembled by our experts from the finest leaves taken from the best tea gardens in the world, and in our opinion exceeds even Meinl's exacting standards of quality.

Strong, full-bodied Assam, light First Flush from Darjeeling, mellow and aromatic Korakundah from southern India, and our own full-flavoured house mix – whatever you taste in black tea you'll find something to appreciate in our "Michiko" range.

If green tea is more to your taste, you won't be alone in coming here to buy the best teas in Vienna. Under our experts guidance you can choose between high-grade, hand rolled China Jasmine Pearl, exquisite Fine Formosa Green Oolong and many other fine green teas.

And for those looking for something a little further afield than simple green or black tea, our selection of fruit and herbal infusions contains some real gems, among them the lemony Verveine, aromatic Rooibos and refreshing mint Krause.

Selected teas from some of the best-known tea merchants rounds off our collection. Aromatic Kaschmir Tschai from the Parisian firm of Kousmichoff, for example, or the delectable Breakfast and Lunchtime blends of Yorkshire-based Taylors of Harrogate can be found in delightful, attractive tins.

Sweet accompaniments can be found in a wide range of truffles, chocolates and confectionary. Kir Royal and Champagne pralines sit alongside delicious truffles in the tempting flavours of gingerbread, Assam tea, orange-champagne, and Sicilian marzipan carefully shaped into small fruits.

Extra-large pralines by French top chocolatiers Valrhona like “Ginger with Fruits”, “Nougat Rose Marzipan” and “Raspberry Wafer” form the top level of sweet gems and, when wrapped into delightful little boxes, are quickly turned into a pretty gift for someone special.

The characteristic of tea

Tea is'nt just delicious, but has many different effects. Black tea, for example, can lower blood pressure and thus calm nerves. However care about to drink only in small amounts, cause it can  come otherwise to stomach upsets. Chamomile tea and fennel tea, however, are the suitable varieties for stomach and intestines.

There are over 3,000 different types of tea. The black tea, green tea, herbal teas and fruit teas are still the most popular. Also yellow tea, white tea and rooibos tea are drunk more often. Would you want to try all varieties that excist then you would have to drink different teas every day for eight years.

Many exotic and unusual teas are not imported because it's not profitable. Tea lovers are repeatedly willing to pay a lot of money, to get these special strains.

Green tea has a high priority in Asia. It is drunk, there very much, because it helps with cardiovascular problems and purportedly according to prevent cancer. White tea has positive effects on the metabolism, the immune system and skin aging. No matter what flavor and what effect: there is definitely something for everyone!
