The secret of this popular department’s success lies in the combination of extensive, in-depth knowledge and a genuine passion for wine. That means that the carefully prepared collection of wine we can offer is matched by the excellent service provided by our staff.


On the Ground Floor you can find everything from full-blooded Riojas to velvety-soft Chiantis, and all from selected vineyards. A wide cross-section of Austrian products from our best wine-producing regions, including well-known names like, Aumann, Fischer, Rosi Schuster, Knoll and Zierer, stand alongside numerous classic names from France and the New World. And for those on the look out for something new, we have a continuous cycle of special offers, new discoveries and insiders’ tips.


Department head Herr Stromberger pays particular attention to our sweet and port wine assortment, the most extensive in Austria. We have a collection of vintage Kracher, legendary Château d’Yquem from outstanding years, wonderful growths from the vineyards of Lang/Illmitz and all the major port producers of the world – Graham’s, Churchill’s Taylor’s, Niepoort and Porto Pocas, to name a few.

In our air-conditioned cellar you’ll find everything that is anything in the world of wine. Sought-after Bordeaux vintages (2000, 1996...even 1961!), the best Burgundies and top Austrian wines such as the “Grüner-Veltliner „M“ Smaragd” from F.X. Pichler or the “Salzburg” from Weingut Heinrich are all regulars here, as are international wonders like “Sine qua non” from Californian vintner Manfred Krankl, “Pingus” from Ribera del Duero and the „Supertoscani“ Sassicaia and Tignanello.


If you like bubbles while you drink, this department is the right one for you! All major labels as well as numerous champagnes by smaller, upcoming wine-makers like Gobillard or Billecart-Salmon are present, turning the selection into a nose-tickling treasure!

Last but not least we would like to recommend a selection of our own brands. The Welschriesling, Chianti, Zweigelt etc. selected by our wine experts, are becoming more and more popular, due to their rare quality and excellent value.

Appelton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum

In 1962, shortly before Jamaica gained its independence, some barrels of the Appleton Estate were shelved rum, to mature in the following years. August 6, 2012 was the anniversary of Jamaican independence for the 50th time. On this occasion, the Appleton Blenderin, Joy Spencer, the first female master blender of the world, created a very special rum: the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica independence reserve.

With Appleton 50 Year Old Appleton opens up a completely new segment. Only 800 bottles of this exclusive rum were offered worldwide - and in some few selected stores only. The Appleton Estate 50 Year Old is a sought collector's item and is considered the oldest rum in the world with a minimum maturity period of 50 years. The handmade bottle with gold-coloured symbols of Jamaica, which is offered in a black lacquered high-quality wooden box underlines the noble character of this rum.

Tasting notes

: Dark mahogany with a rich copper mirror and distinctive green ring of maturity.

Bouquet: Strong oak with rich notes of vanilla and a soft blanket of cinnamon, maple and orange peel.

Resonance: Exceptionally smooth with honeyed oak on the finish.

Do you know...?


Red wine can... stored in the refrigerator. The belief that red wine needs ideally always room temperature, is not exactly true. A red wine should not be warmer than 20 degrees (some wine need between 16 and 18 degrees). Because it is very often warmer than 20 dagrees in the dining room, the red wine can be given about an hour in the refrigerator before serving.



High temperatures...


...damage the taste of the wine. The reason: Wine matures in heat faster than it should, which reinforces the alcohol taste and the flavour disappears. Red wine should be stored in a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees. The cellar is the best storage place for the wine, but another cool place in the apartment is also sufficient.



Partial wine...


...needs the refrigerator. Because the open wine may not come in contact with oxygen, the bottle must be hermetically sealed. Otherwise, he is unfortunately quickly unfit for consumption and must be disposed of. But the wine should be not kept very long in the fridge, because he loses its aroma and its taste soon.



Red wine stains...


... can be removed most of the time. The easiest trick: give lemon juice and then salt or cornstarch on the stain. For stubborn stains on clothes, they can be inserted into the cooking water (no salt!) of potatoes. Another tip: a red wine stain on the carpet can be washed out thoroughly with plenty of mineral water.
