Meinl's Café with its terrace on the Kohlmarkt, is among the best-known city-centre locations where people come to enjoy the traditional Viennese are of coffee drinking. The menu offers you 35 different ways to drink coffee; starting with the classic melange, you'll find old favourites like cappuccinos as well as lesser-known concoctions like the einspänner, kaffee verkehrt and mazagran.

 

Meinl's Café continuously amazes his customers and wins new devotees with his new creations such as mandorlino, a cold espresso flavoured with almond milk, and melange orangina, a delightful blend of a große braune and orange liqueur.

 

Each recipe is prepared in a traditional way, whether by espresso, in the Turkish style or even using the long-forgotten "Karlsbader Methode", and matched with the bean whose qualities can best be exploited by the chosen process.

For Turkish coffee, for example, the stronger varieties are best. For espressos, where taste and aroma are heavily concentrated, South American beans with less fruit and acidity are preferred.

 

More distinguished varieties such as Guatemala Antigua or the Ethiopian Mocca Yirga release their subtle aromas best when brewed using the "Karlsbader Methode".

The dedicated staff of Meinl's Café are always on hand and ready to prepare your coffee in whichever way you choose to take it, and to add another level to your enjoyment of this wonderful drink.

Coffee Preperation
Depending on the type of coffee is one of the traditional preparation; Espresso, Turkish type or the Karlsbad method used to optimally highlight to the different characteristics of each variety. The most powerful varieties suitable for Turkish coffee, are ideal for espresso, which highly concentrated aroma and flavors, South American varieties with little fruit and acidity. Noble varieties such as Guatemala Antigua and Ethiopian Mocha Yirga unfold their subtle flavor best at brewing the Karlsbad method.
